2027 Oyo state governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, Oyo State, Olaoluwa Peter Abidemi, popularly called OPA has expressed dissatisfaction to the Tuesday presentation of budget by the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde at the state House of Assembly.

Olaoluwa, in a statement through his media office in Ibadan, explained that Governor Makinde, in his budget, failed to analyse important aspects of the budget, especially the sources through which the budget will be financed.

The sources will help to determine the expected revenue, and when matched with budgeted expenditures, we will be able to know whether 2026 budget is a surplus, balanced, or deficit budget.

Also the key assumptions used to build the budget e.g IGR projections, the expected allocation from the federal government (based on what has been coming in the last one yr) and whether there will be additional loans were not made known to the people of the state.

OPA, a Chartered Accountant, turned politician explained that the governor also failed to update the residents of the state on the status of many loans collected by his government as well as interest on such loans and their impact on 2026 budget.

He further stressed that in senile clime, the government must explain to its people how its programmes and projects will be financed.

“Governor Makinde, in his budget presentation, did not reveal many financial statutory facts and figures that would ordinarily be made known to the people so as to prepare them for the economic challenges of the coming year.

Olaoluwa then called on the governor to come out clean and revealed how the budget would be financed and the financing sources should be made known.

Olaoluwa who commended the governor on the method used in preparing the budget, which is “Bottom Up” however said it will be more meaningful if the source through which all the projects would be executed is made known.

Tagged the “Budget of Economic Expansion,” the governor said that out of the proposed figures, N389.34 billion would be allocated to recurrent expenditure, while N502.65 billion is earmarked for capital expenditure.

Breaking it down, Makinde explained, “The infrastructure sector takes the lead with N210.02 billion, the education sector N155.21 billion, the health sector N70.81 billion, the agricultural sector N19.99 billion, and other multisectoral sectors are allocated N435.9 billion.”
