A Nine-Woman Super Falcons narrowly lost to The Lionesses of Morocco by 5-4 on penalty shootout to reach the final of the Women’s African Cup of Nations

The Moroccans will now meet South Africa in the final of the tournament while the Nigerian side will play Zambia in the third place match.

The match ended 1-1 which necessitated an extra-time while did not produce a goal, then the penalty shootout has to decide the winner.

While the Moroccans scored all their kicks, Ifeoma Onumonu missed one kick for Nigeria.

After a goalless first half, the Nigerian side were down to 10 players after Halimatu Ayinde received a matching order after VAR review on 48 minutes.

But it was the Falcons who opened the scoring on 62 minutes through Uchenna Kanu.

The host levelled four minutes later through Sanaâ Mssoudy.

Things got worse for the Falcons as star player, Rasheedat Ajibade was sent off for a dangerous challenge after VAR Review.

The Falcons played with nine women throughout the duration and the extra-time, but the Moroccans could not capitalise on their strength to win the match but waited for penalty to do so.
