In order to maintain peace and order in Sokoto metropolis, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state has declared a 24-hour curfew with immediate effect.

This comes after a protest over the murder of Deborah Samuel, a Shehu Shagari College of Education student.

Deborah was killed in a school after a whatsApp group chat for allegedly insulting the Holy Prophet Mohammed.

As a result of the Sultan of Sokoto’s order, two people were arrested. Many people, particularly youths in Sokoto, were outraged by the arrest and took to the streets to demand the suspect’s immediate release.

Governor Tambuwal responded by calling for calm in a statewide broadcast while the state government investigates the incident.
