There are palpable fears that the coronation of the 43rd Olubadan may witness delay as members of Olubadan Advisory Council seems to be in disagreement with the current head of King makers and Otunba Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja.
The reason for disagreement was said to be Ladoja’s decision not to had accepted the coronets that was given by the Oyo State government last year which was as a result of the review of the old law of the land.
All members of the council today shunned a meeting called by Ladoja to begin the Coronation of the next Olubadan.
The absence of the Olubadan designate, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, among other members of the Olubadan-in-Council, stalled the proposed meeting of the council, earlier scheduled for today.
Speaking with newsmen, the Otun Olubadan of Ibadan, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, who convened the meeting, said another meeting will be convoked to know the next line of action, as the city awaits the official announcement of the 43rd Olubadan.
After the death of the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Lekan Balogun, two weeks ago, indigenes of the town and residents of the city, have been anxiously waiting for the announcement of the new Olubadan.
According to tradition, a new Olubadan is expected to be ratified by the Olubadan-in-Council, the apex body of traditional chiefs (now Obas) in Ibadan, before transmission to the state government for approval within 21 days of the death of the previous monarch.
As earlier expected, the Olubadan-in-Council was expected to meet today at the Oja’ba palace to begin the ratification process. The meeting convened by the Otun Olubadan, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, could not hold due to the absence of the Olubadan designate, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, and some other members of the council.
In a chat with Newsmen, the Otun Olubadan, High Rasheed Ladoja said he can not really explained the reason for the absence of Oba Olakulehin at the meeting.
He also added that the meeting will be reconvened at a latter date.
