The immediate past Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu was on Friday sentence to ten years imprisonment by a UK court.

Sen Ekweremadu few months ago was alleged of organ-trafficking plot, after bringing a boy to the UK from Nigeria.

The former number 2 senator, his wife, Beatrice and one Dr Obinna Obeta, were convicted for conspiring to exploit the man for his kidney.

The Judge said Ekweremadu was the “driving force throughout”, and sent him to nine years and eight months in prison.

Dr Obeta was sentenced to 10 years after the judge found he had targeted the potential donor who was young, poor and vulnerable.

Beatrice Ekweremadu was sentenced to four years and six months due to her more limited involvement.
