A female journalist with Federal Radio Corporation Of Nigeria, Ibadan Station, Comrade Omolola Alamu, has emerged as the new Chairperson, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Oyo State Chapter.

Comrade Alamu was elected alongside other executive members by registered members of the Association, at the Dapo Aderogba Hall, NUJ Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan, on Thursday, November 25, 2021.

The election was held under a conducive environment, as against a statement earlier issued by the supposed credential Committee Chairman, Comrade Morenike Tony-Esan, that the State NUJ  Secretariat, was not conducive for the election.

According to reports gathered by Rock Hill Radio, spirited NAWOJIANS were on ground early enough at the Press Center to exercise their rights before Comrade Esan posted on the Association’s WhatsApp platform that venue for the election as been changed due to untrue reasons, which, according to members, has never happened in the history of the Association.

The ever agitated NAWOJ members who were at the official venue of the election effected the change in Oyo NAWOJ by voting at the Press Center, with an assurance that they are fully ready to support Comrade Alamu and her team.

Responding, the Chairperson elect, Comrade Omolola Alamu urged members to be up and doing in the Association, promising to lift the Association to an enviable heights.

She stressed that the welfare of members would be given utmost priority, noting that it was one of the major plans of her team.

The Chairperson-elect implored NAWOJIANS in the State to give maximum support to her team so as to achieve remarkable success; emphasising that with her team, every member would be involved.

It would be recalled that the Association has lately been faced with storms as the immediate past Chairperson seems to want to remain in power outside the choice of the members and the State NUJ, the umbrella body, had also dissociated itself from the NAWOJ election.

Among the newly elected officers by bonafide members are:

Comrade Shade Oduola as Vice Chairperson

Comrade Ramat Alade as Secretary

Comrade Temilola Akarah as Treasurer

Comrade Kehinde Igbari as Assistant Secretary.

Comrade Temilola Oyewole as Financial Secretary.
