A one time associate and close ally of the winner of June 12, 1993 Presidential Election, Chief MKO Abiola, who is currently the Chairman/CEO Su-Kazeem Property Limited, Ibadan, Alhaji Sufianu Kazeem has expressed disappointment over a comment credited to Archbishop Emeritus of the Catholic Dioceses of Abuja, Cardinal John Onaiyekan.
Cardinal Onaiyekan few days ago had criticised the government over his rush to swear in Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu as President despite the case in court.
The Catholic Church leader in the statement said, ” It doesn’t make much sense for President-Elect to be sworn in before the conclusion of the election tribunal.
While reacting to the development, Alhaji Sufianu Kazeem in a release on Sunday through his media office in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital said the comment was never expected of a Calibre of Onaiyekan who people believe is a senior man of God.
Alhaji Kazeem stated that for such a respected man of God to had uttered such words, then, then it is sad and unexpected.
The elder statesman said the comment by Onaiyekan shows him to the world as Unpatriotic and selfish adding that, it’s like a politician in a cassocks.
“Onaiyekan talks and act like God, which is grossly unacceptable. How can such a leader said such words and sent to the people of Nigeria.
With such comment, I wonder if Onaiyekan is truly a man of God and maybe he never read his Bible well as a serious clergyman we assumed he is. The two holy books affirmed that every of earthly leadership are from God and sanctioned by God. So, why then our Cardinal Onaiyekan was now speaking against the Bible that he also processes.”
Alhaji Kazeem then called on all relevant security agencies to ensure close monitoring of activities of Onaiyekan and his followers so as not to jeopardize the much expected May 29, 2023 inauguration.
Alhaji Kazeem made a reference to the experience of June 12, 1993 of Late MKO Abiola and strongly warned against repeat of such episode.
He counselled religious leaders to strictly adhere to holy books and always preach peace, unity and better nation and not to divide Nigeria through their utterances.
Alhaji Kazeem added that although he is not a member of any political party and not at all interested in Political scheming and show off by some so called religious leaders either from Christian side or muslim.
“I’m not a politician but a Stateman who have the love of his nation at heart. Let all Imams and Pastors that are interested in politics go join any party of their choice and stop the confusion with politically motivated speeches.
“Political campaign is over and this should be the time for Governance and it’s expected that everyone should cooperate and pray for the success of the incoming administration.
He recalled the unfortunate incident during Jonathan led government when a popular pastor took Nigeria money with his private jet claiming he was going to purchase weapons to fight Boko Haram as if we are in the middle of a war, All these must stop as soon as possible for Nigeria to move forward.
