Over two years after her tragic murder, justice has finally been served as an Ogun High Court sentences three teenage boys involved in the brutal killing of 16-year-old Sofiat Okeowo.
The Ogun State High Court has delivered justice in the chilling murder case of Sofiat Okeowo, a 16-year-old girl gruesomely killed in Kugba, Abeokuta South LGA, on January 28, 2022.
On Friday, July 11, 2025, the court found the three boys—Mustakeem Balogun, Soliudeen Majekodunmi, and Lukmon Abdulgafar—guilty of murder.
In a ruling that has been met with public relief and sorrow, Mustakeem and Soliudeen were sentenced to death, while Lukmon received a life sentence.
The case, which sparked outrage across Nigeria at the time, involved disturbing details. One of the killers, who was Sofiat’s ex-boyfriend, reportedly lured her into a trap, passed her on to his friend, and later conspired to take her life.
It was not just a murder—it was a betrayal of trust, a calculated act of evil that left many in tears and disbelief.
According to community sources, the killing was ritual-motivated, involving beheading and mutilation—a trend sadly rising among misguided youth under the influence of desperation, social media fantasies, and criminal networks.
The court’s ruling is a step toward restoring faith in the justice system and serves as a loud warning to young people that crime, no matter the age, has consequences.
Moral Lesson:
Peer pressure, greed, and fake fame dreams can destroy lives. Teach your children early that real success has no shortcuts—only consequences when taken the wrong way.
