A prominent Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Nigeria and Obanla of Iwioland, High Chief Abiola has stated that the June 12 1993 Presidential Election of late MKO Abiola would have been a major breakthrough for the country if not annuled.
Ogundokun stated this on Monday while speaking with journalists at his Bashorun, Ibadan palatial residence on Monday as part of June 12 celebration.
The Elderstateman who is also the National Coordinator, National Movement for the the Corporate Existence of Nigeria said the election of June 12, 1993 was unique because it was the first time a Yoruba and Southerner would had majority votes in both the North and other zones of the country.
High Chief Ogundokun who was a member of old Iwo local government council in 1976 and later elected member of the constituent Assembly revealed that he was sent by MKO Abiola to meet with the former military head of state, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida at his Hill top GRA, Minna, Niger State.
The Elderstateman stated that IBB was so honest and sincere with his dealings and friendship with Abiola until some self imposed agent of destabilization.
Ogundokun said he got a favourable response from Babangida and encouraged Abiola to throw his heart into the ring.
The Elder stateman stated that with his closeness to IBB, he is of the opinion that the former Nigeria head of state was sincere and honest with his intention to saw Abiola coming up as Nigeria President until the agents of destabilization gatecrashed and end the good wish of Nigerians who gave their support to MKO Abiola.
He revealed that the Abiola Presidency was punctured by some Yoruba politicians who then used Abiola’s incarceration to boost their ego by funding false and implicative information for Abacha’s government.
He added that he was one of those people that God used to defused some of the information passed out by some Yoruba ambitionists who saw nothing good in Abiola and worked for their own selfish interest.
High Chief Abiola Ogundokun who many years ago worked with many governors and leaders of Nigeria also revealed that Late General Oladipo Diya who was then second in command to Late General Sani Abacha was committed to the release of Late MKO Abiola but the effort was thwarted by some Yoruba selfish interest antagonising Abiola’s fortune.
He called on Tinubu’s administration to encourage Major Hamzat Mustapha, who was then the Chief Security Officer to Abacha to release available evidences, videos and documents that are at his disposal to assist the nation to expose underground devil’s that bring an end to Abiola’s life.
“Whatever role anybody plays, God will judge them accordingly. We should not be gapped that Abiola and Abacha dies within thirty days.
I can not but say that the June 12 struggle were championed by prominent people like President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who staked their life when many were busy looking for appointments.”he added.
We thank God we have his Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu who God has brought in place to replenish the losses and restore the trust of many Nigerians.
This time, the enemy will not succeed over him, he will complete his term and even beyond.”
