Extend Deadline For Voter’s Registration, NNPP House Of Assembly Candidate Urges INEC

The candidate of the Oyo State House of Assembly in Ido state constituency on the platform of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Hon Semiu Folarin popularly known as “Olorunero” has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to extend the deadline for the continuous voter registration to enable Nigerians to register.

Hon Folarin made this appeal while speaking with journalists shortly after monitoring the exercise at Ido state constituency registration centres.

Hon Folarin expressed displeasure to inability of many people in the constituency for not been able to registered.

He also called on the commission to deploy additional staff and voter registration machines across the state to meet the objective.

The intending lawmaker informed that, there were reports of shortages of voter registration machines, inadequate manpower and personnel at registration centres not only in Ido but across the state.

Hon Folarin “Olorunero” said inabilities of many intending voters to registered might lead to frustration among prospective registrants and in some cases, unrest at some registration centres.

He added that since a provision was in the Electoral Act, the call for extension was in order.

Hon Folarin who was a candidate of the Zenith Labour Party during the 2021 local government election in Oyo State in Ido local government who was believed had won the election said Section 9(6) of the Electoral Act 2022 allows for voter registration to go on till 90 days to the general elections hence the need for INEC to complied with it.
