The Borno State Government has taken a significant step towards rehabilitating internally displaced persons (IDPs) by closing the Muna IDP camp in Maiduguri. This move is part of Governor Zulum’s initiative to close all IDP camps in the state before his tenure expiration.

The closure of Muna IDP camp marks a major milestone in the government’s efforts to resettle IDPs back to their ancestral homes. Engr. Bukar Talba, Chairman of the Resettlement Committee, announced that the state governor had directed him to resettle people from Marte to their homes, with all necessary arrangements already in place.

The DG SEMA Mal. Ali Abdullahi in his remarks stated that the government has provided shelters, cash, food, and non-food items to facilitate the relocation of IDPs to their homes. The next phase of resettlement will focus on Dikwa and Mafa local governments.

Governor Zulum’s commitment to closing IDP camps is part of a broader effort to rebuild and restore communities affected by the insurgency. The state government has already closed or partially closed/relocated 17 IDP camps in Jere, Konduga, Ngala, and Maiduguri Metropolitan Council areas.
