Champions Bayern Munich open the 2023-24 Bundesliga season on August 18 at Werder Bremen, according to the fixtures list released on Friday by the German Football League (DFL).

It will be the 113th top flight match between the two sides, a record for the league which is going into its 61st season.

The 2023 runners-up Borussia Dortmund start against Cologne on August 19 or 20 while promoted Darmstadt and Heidenheim are away at Eintracht Frankfurt and Wolfsburg, respectively, on matchday one.

The first Bayern v Dortmund meeting is on matchday 10 in early November in Dortmund. The reverse fixture in Munich is in late March.

Bayern pipped Dortmund on goal difference for an 11th straight league title in May.

The season runs until May 18, 2024. There is only one mid-week round, right before the winter break December 19-20. The half-way mark of the season is reached on the next matchday January 12-14.

The second division starts on July 28 with a big game between SV Hamburg, who failed to return into the top flight the past two seasons by losing play-off ties, and relegated Schalke.
