Ahead of this weekend’s final of the 10th Optima Energy Gold Cup involving Stars Sports Club of Ibadan and Remo Stars, the Chairman of the Oluyole Warriors Honourable Tunde Olaniyan has called on the fans of the Ibadan club to comport themselves well before, during and after the game.
In a repeat of last year’s final, the two South West clubsides are slugging it out on Saturday at the Remo Stars stadium in Ikenne to determine who becomes the Champions of the pre season tournament.
The appeal for calm from the 3SC Management becomes imperative following the lingering enmity between the fans of the two South West teams.
The last two encounters between Shooting Stars and Remo Stars ended in stalemate as neither of the teams was victorious.
But the relationship between the fans of two teams remained unfriendly, with fans violence occuring after two games in Ikenne and Ibadan last season.
In his efforts at averting the repeat of last season’s clash between the fans of the visiting team and the host team in Ikenne, Honourable Olaniyan appealed to fans to eschew violence when watching the final of the pre season competition.
In an exclusive chat, Honourable Olaniyan said: “we would appreciate whoever is interested in going to watch our pre season final game on Saturday. But they should comport themselves in a peaceful manner.
“Our fans going to Ikenne for our game against Remo Stars should prepare to watch good football, and not engaging in any form of violence. They should please realize we are good brothers from the South West”, he pleaded.
Kick off time for the final of this year’s Optima Energy Gold Cup is 3pm.
Recall that the defending Champions Remo Stars mauled 3SC by four goals to lift the trophy at the final of the competition last year.
