The Nigerian Association of Christian Journalists, NACJ, has condemned the unguarded statement made by the President, Association of Mogajis in Ibadanland, Mogaji Asimiyu Ariori, alleging that Christians engage in polygamous relationships with concubines.
The NACJ, in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, PRO, Com. Adeola Badru on behalf of the Chairman, Lekan Shobo Shobowale on Thursday, said the action of the Mogaji is not acceptable.
It called on the Mogaji to retract his statement and issue an apology, as it is deemed deeply offensive to Christians and other religious groups in the community.
The NACJ also stressed the importance of mutual respect and tolerance among all communities and religious body in the state.
The association pointed out that such remarks, especially coming from a community head, are unbecoming and could have negative consequences on the peaceful coexistence of all groups in Ibadan and the state entirely.
NACJ further stressed that the values of love, tolerance, and respect for others’ beliefs are fundamental to a thriving society, and that all groups should work together to uphold these values.
The association, however hopes that the incident will serve as a lesson for everyone to be more thoughtful and respectful in their words and actions.
