The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has disassociated itself from planned public protests against the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. A video clip circulating on social media shows a factional chairman of the SDP endorsing the protests, but the party’s National Executive, led by Engr. (Chief) Wole Adesina, rejects this stance.
The SDP has evidence that the protests are orchestrated by the promoters of LGBT in the country, and secessionist advocates, backed by desperate politicians and individuals facing investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The aim is to destabilize and stigmatized the government and prevent President Tinubu’s possible re-election.
The SDP urges well-meaning Nigerians and party members nationwide to shun these protests. Our principle is to support good governance and effect constructive criticism when the need arises. We commend President Tinubu on securing autonomy for local governments, a feat previous administrations failed to achieve. This milestone will boost grassroots economic development.
We urge everyone to reject any calls to join anti-government protests.
