The Oyo State Government has organized a seminar towards educating its civil and public service workers on the rudiments of disciplinary procedures.
The one-day seminar, held at the Western Hall, House of Assembly Complex, Secretariat, Ibadan, was declared open by the State Head of Service, Mrs. Olubunmi Oni.
Mrs. Oni who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Service Matters, Mr. Paul A.O. Oyekunle emphasized that the training, which was long overdue, would equip the state’s public and civil servants with the necessary tools and skills to meet the challenges of the 21st century and improve disciplinary processes and procedures effectively.
She commended the Executive Governor of the State, Engineer Seyi Makinde, for approving the training programme, which provides an opportunity to explore innovative solutions and discuss emerging trends in managing disciplinary matters.
She further urged participants to adhere to the rules and regulations of the State Public Services Rules, emphasizing expertise, best practices, excellence, integrity, accountability, and avoiding criminal offenses and misconduct.
In his remarks, Chairman of the Oyo State Civil Service Commission, Alhaji Kamoru Abiodun Aderibigbe, also commended the Executive Governor for prioritizing the welfare and development of all categories of workers
He stated that understanding disciplinary procedures would promote a culture of maintaining the highest standards of conduct, fairness, transparency, accountability, and excellence.
He further clarified that disciplinary matters in the service are often subjected to litigation but are mostly faulted by the courts due to non-conformity with laid-down regulations and avoidable technicalities.
Attendees included the Chairman of the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS), Oloye Dotun Olaitan, represented by the General Manager, Mr. Goke Adelakun, full and part-time commissioners of the commission, resource persons, retired and serving permanent secretaries in the Civil Service Commission, Ministry of Establishment and Training, the Acting Solicitor-General, Ministry of Justice: Mr. Olufemi Akamu, Mr. S.O. Adebolu, Mr. O.M. Okesade, and Barrister Olubunmi Ogunniran.
