The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially appointed German coach Bruno Labbadia as the new head coach of the Super Eagles, Nigeria’s senior men’s national football team. The decision was confirmed in the early hours of Tuesday.
Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, the NFF General Secretary, announced that the Executive Committee of the NFF approved Labbadia’s appointment following the recommendation of the Technical and Development Sub-Committee.
Sanusi stated, “The NFF Executive Committee has endorsed the appointment of Mr. Bruno Labbadia as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles. This appointment takes effect immediately.”
Labbadia, who becomes the 37th head coach of the Super Eagles, is expected to bring a wealth of experience to the role, having managed several top clubs in the Bundesliga, including Darmstadt 98, Bayer Leverkusen, VfB Stuttgart, Hamburger SV, and Hertha BSC.
The appointment of Labbadia is part of the NFF’s broader strategy to rejuvenate the Super Eagles and enhance their competitive edge on the international stage.
His arrival comes at a critical time, with the team gearing up for important fixtures in both the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers and the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
