LG Autonomy: Supreme Court Judgment, A Call To Service – Ex-Oyo ALGON Boss

A former Chairman, Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Prince Ayodeji Abass Aleshinloye, said the recent autonomy granted by the Supreme Court to the the local government should not be seen as mere government to government affair, but a call to service.

Alesinloye stated this at a get-together, and media talk organised forum 68 comprises of 68 former local government Chairmen, 68 Vice Chairmen and 610 Councillors held at the Forum 68 secretariat, Iyaganku, Ibadan.

He explained that the judgement should encourage more popular participation by the people to guarantee free and fair elections , allocations, and budget monitoring, among many others.

He said this will ensure and guarantee transparency, integrity, and accountability.

Alesinloye stated that forum 68 has been able to offer constructive opposition and useful advice when necessary to the state government and local councils on democratic local government administration and grassroots development to move Oyo State forward.

He added that the forum is a convergence point of unity to and peace to reckon with to make sure APC as a party is stronger, ready and return to power at both local and state government level.

Others who spoke at the event, which included the Chairman, Oyo state chapter, APC, Alhaji Olaide Abass, Senator Ayo Adeseun, Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle and Hon Asimiyu Alarape all called on members of Oyo APC to unite and reclaimed the party from ruling PDP.
