A violent clash erupted between Gbagyi villagers and herdsmen in Barkta village, located within the Bosso Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State.
Intelligent sources told Zagazola Makama that the conflict began on August 26, 2024, following a fatal altercation between a local farmer and a group of herdsmen.
The confrontation reportedly started when the farmer confronted the herdsmen over the incursion of their cattle onto his farmland, which resulted in significant crop destruction. During this dispute, the herdsmen allegedly killed the farmer, sparking outrage among the Gbagyi villagers.
In retaliation for the farmer’s death, the Gbagyi villagers launched an attack on the herdsmen’s settlement near Barkta village. This led to a violent clash between the two groups, significantly escalating tensions in the area.
The security situation in Barkta village is currently calm, but there remains a heightened sense of fear and unease among the villagers. Local sources express concerns over the potential for further hostilities or retaliatory actions.
