Nigerian Military Declares War on Social Media Backing of IPOB, Vows to Crush Threats to National Unity
Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, issued a blistering warning: Stop promoting IPOB activities online or face catastrophic consequences for national unity.
The defence chief’s explosive declaration came during a high-stakes community engagement in Omor, Anambra State, where he accused social media users of “fueling chaos” by circulating unverified claims linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its militant wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN). Represented by Group Captain Ibrahim Bukar, Deputy Director of Defence Media Operations, Musa condemned the trend as a “ticking time bomb” for Nigeria’s stability.
“IPOB’s actions are not just a regional threat—they are a national poison,” Bukar thundered on behalf of the CDS during a diplomatic outreach under Operation Udoka.
“Every false narrative shared online is a bullet fired at the heart of our country’s peace. This ends now.”
The defence chief’s visit to the palace of Obi Eze Ana-Uku, Eze Igulube of Omor, underscored the military’s urgent plea for public cooperation. Musa warned that restoring security in the violence-plagued region hinges on citizens snitching on agitators and halting all digital support for IPOB.
“Trust your military—we are your institution,” he urged, demanding locals provide “actionable intelligence” to troops. “When you see something, SAY SOMETHING. Insecurity cannot be defeated without your courage.”
The CDS also delivered a stark reassurance: the Armed Forces remain “impartial guardians” of order, but will ruthlessly dismantle threats to Nigeria’s sovereignty. His words come amid escalating clashes between troops and secessionist groups, with social media often accused of amplifying tensions.
As the South-East grapples with rising unrest, Musa’s ultimatum leaves no room for ambiguity—silence online is no longer an option. The clock is ticking for compliance, and the stakes? Nothing less than Nigeria’s survival.
