The Oyo State Governor, Engr Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, has emerged the gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, at the just concluded primary election held at Lekan Salami Stadium.
Governor Makinde polled a total of 1,040 votes to defeat his opponent, Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarunmi, who polled two votes.
The returning officer, Mr Ben Obi, who was represented by Mr Abdullahi Mai Baswor made the declaration on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, in Ibadan, the State capital.
Earlier, the State PDP Gubernatorial Aspirant, Alhaji Gbolarumi, had declared Governor Makinde as the only recognised Oyo State PDP Party leader.
Alhaji Gbolarumi made the declaration while addressing the Party delegates before the PDP Governorship Primary election; stressing the need for true reconciliation to bring back the aggrieved members to the Party.
Also addressing the delegates before the election, Governor Makinde had commended his only contender, Alhaji Gbolarumi for joining the governorship race.
Governor Makinde, who said they both agreed to follow the process, described his opponent’s efforts as deepening democracy in the Party; adding that no matter the outcome of the election, they would come together as brothers after the primary.
